Cricket seminar 2006

April 2006 - Turf wicket seminar cracks the tonne…..

Living Turf’s recent professional turf seminar scored a century, with 105 curators converging on the North Sydney Oval function centre on the first Wednesday in April.  While delegates did come from far and wide, it was appropriate that this wicket seminar was staged the week after completion of Sydney grade cricket.

Rob Cooper commented, “the feedback we’ve received from delegates has been really pleasing.  With our partner sponsors on the day ( Syngenta, Organic Crop Protectants M. Collins and Sons), we worked hard to ensure the day was relevant, interesting and delivered in an environment where our guests were comfortable enough to listen and absorb the information we wanted to deliver.”

The technical content on the day addressed issues of clay soil chemistry, structure and the influence of water quality.  Real life case studies were detailed throughout the seminar to illustrate and increase the relevance of key points.  Additionally, the topic of product development was overviewed as a means for providing targeted solutions to turf problems.

MATCHplay product developments featured for this reason included;

NUTRIsorb Ca9   (organically chelated calcium for correction of soil and plant calcium deficiency)
VITALise            (foliar applied biostimulant for conditioning turf against physical and environmental stresses)
EQUALise          (soil conditioner for treatment of bicarbonate affected soils)
AQUAturf           (plant friendly, chemically stable and long term soil wetting agent)

After lunch a panel of turf wicket curators originating from Adelaide Oval (Michael Box), Manuka Oval ACT (Marcus Pamplin) and the MCG (Richard Winter) led an open forum where audience participation was fantastic.  Discussion moved from soils, through to preparation, grass species and on to pests and diseases, allowing everyone to take something home.

Not only did the Guest speakers keep the group entertained, but during a break Living Turf’s soft cricket “stress” balls certainly made for safe in close catching.  With time allowed after the presentations for refreshments and networking, the event was a win / win for all who attended.

Bicarbonates are alkaline salts that bind to calcium to form calcium carbonate.
Often irrigation water contains bicarbonates that reduce the availability of soil calcium, reducing pore spaces and stressing turf roots. More...
